As I see it this is a scam in which the perpetrator of the scam tries to first get control by having the craigs lister take their ad off craigs list for compliance control and then to make it sound legitimate to ask for personal information to make the lister think everything is ok and also to use as the information that the person furnishes to create the bad check and the rest of the information on where the check is sent. When the legitimate lister of the item receives the bad check he keeps the money for the item listed and bought and sends the difference to the shipper including some times a bonus for his trouble. Then by the time the bad check is discovered the good funds/money has already been sent to the fake shipper and is gone. That is the scam and can be easily defeated by telling the sender of the check that the money to be sent to the shipper will be sent as soon as the buyers funds are received and verified and approved by your bank/credit union. Telling the check sender/buyer this will probably get a quick response of a whoosh as they disappear back under the rocks that they crawled out from under. If the notice of verification is clever enough they won"t catch on and most likely will be at a loss as to how to remedy this problem. It will be fun to know that even though they have not been "caught" they will have at least been caused a little spot of trouble and will at least be out the cost of the shipping of the fake check without knowing that they are out in the open, at least in this case, and are out of pocket. L.E.

As a postscript to the previous message it would probably best to wait until the bad check sender has sent the check and furnished the shipping information FEDEX/USPS/UPS/ect. ect. Then when they are waiting for the money to steal and contact you for the reason it has not come yet, tell them the verification story. Of course if the check is good take the money and bonus, if any and contact the shipper to verify their authenticity and arrange for pick up or packaging and shipping . If it is a pick up at your home best not to be alone if possible.just in case. Best L.E>
