I just got a response from charleawrence@gmail.com on a Craigslist post for some furniture I'm selling. In it, he offered to mail me a certified cashier's check and, after the check clears, send his mover over to pick up the furniture. His original email was almost identical to the message posted here, but was from lanrelanre41@gmail.com. His response to my response came from this charleawrence@gmail.com.

Same email for our Craigslist posting.

same.. ..CL.. OC CA..
I recently posted some high end antiques

I hope these scammers realize not all on CL are not stupid... (especially when I put in my listings... on the bottom of the page..)

Listing will be deleted when sold. I will not respond to.."Do you still have it".."is it still available? " "still for sale?""hit me up" or "text me" type of emails.

if they can't/don't read that far which scammers/spammers don't,then ignore them.
when I see this type response they just get trashed or I sign them up for free porn and email notifications for every new video (1000's a day)
(named and passworded so its difficult to be removed )..lol

here is cut/paste of the response I received
but with none of the normal CL warnings.

..............................

Still up forsale .?

what is your actual asking price. ? contact me at charleawrence@gmail.com

Unfortunately I didn't realize it was a scam until after I gave him my info. Here's the email I got after a few days:

Hi,

I got your information, please i want you to remove the item from
sales list because I'm going to mail the check out Tomorrow via fedex
or Us postal mail and i will get back to you with the tracking number
so that you will know when to expect it. And am also going to include
the mover funds that will come down for pick up along with your
payment. So when you receive the check get your item fee and the rest
goes to the mover, so the pick up will be taking place. Let me read
from you if am to proceed with you. Thank You.

July 7, 2013. Got a response to my Craigslist ad as follows:

Hello,
Is the item still available for sale and what's the final asking price, kindly get back to me via this email charleawrence@gmail.com (317) 891-4008.

Thanks
Charles.

**Interesting that the phone number is assigned to a company in Indianapolis.

THANK YOU for exposing this email address. It's sad that we all have to assume people are criminals. Luckily I'm smart enough to Google and research before anything. Also, glad that Craigslist now keeps our email addresses anonymous back and forth!

I couldn't resist the temptation, so I responded to this bozo. I hope the Feds catch up to him (if he's in the US) and put him in prison. Then I hope he drops the soap so that other inmates do to him what he's trying to do to honest, innocent Americans.

--------------------MY RESPONSE---------------
Hey Charles. Great! I'm happy to sell you my item. But there's a typo in my ad. The price isn't $300. It's $30,000.

First I need your real name, address and phone number. Also scan/email to me a copy of your driver's license and social security card so I can verify your identity. Next I need you to send me via overnight mail, $30,000 in a cashier's check from a U.S. bank. Or you can send me cash, but it must all be smaller than $100 bills. Once I verify your funds are real and it clears my bank, I'll happily ship the item to you overnight. I won't even charge you for shipping. Cheers.

Just got one from him too! I can't believe people like this can't be stopped.

Thanks for your response, I'm ok with the price and the description
stated so I would like to send payment asap. Please let me know if a
certified cashiers check is ok. After my check clears my Mover will
come and pick it up at your location. I would have come and taken a
look of it but I can't. (on a business trip ). If you can get back to
me with your info. I'll mail the check out asap. Need your full name
and address and your telephone number to mail the check out asap.
Thank you.

Today I got his 2nd email attempt from "Lawrence Charles". He also goes by "John Coker" jocok1677@gmail.com which is attached to a bullshit Facebook account. Just Wow. This guy. He also sent me that bullshit phone number 317-891-4008.

Got same emails. Looked up phone # and it comes back via whitepages and local.com as belonging to an exteriors company. Looked up the company and they no longer have that number. Called the 800# and no Charles exists at that company. They will update their phone records. Question is: if he's in Indianapolis, then who are the "Movers" he's going to use in Minneapolis? Maybe I should have gone through with all this and had the police waiting if they ever showed up?

He's calling himself Michael now. It's a scammer from craigslist. He's responding to my postings for high end antiques.

He is still at it. I had antique desk listed and he is still doing the scam. Thankfully did not fall for it. This really ticks me off. How can we stop him. He is so bold about it.

what does he do after you have given him your info?

Haha, I got an email from a CL ad, and they asked for my real email. I replied, and received an IMMEDIATE response (and when I say immediate, I mean that the reply was in my Inbox with in 1 second after I hit SEND! Inb other words, it was an automated response) from "Stephen Brawn" at "stephaniec9b@gmail.com", as follows: "Thanks for your response, I'm ok with the price and the description
stated so I would like to send payment asap. Please let me know if a
certified cashiers check is ok. After my check clears my Mover will
